Is just once of those day accompanying a friend to the camera shop helping him to test out what he is going to buy. and then realized that there is a new Sigma 50mm F.14 ART lens available and the shop owner is kind enough to give me a quick hands on it (Thanks Matt). Well, when I heard that Sigma is going to launched another prime range which I always used (50mm has been my all time street/travel lens). Eventually I am pretty excited and can't wait to get my hands on one of this baby and see how it actually perform. (I am very amazed with how the Sigma 35mm F1.4 ART lens perform so far, love the lens to bits). And I am glad that I manage to get a hands on of this lens pairing with the Nikon DF now. :")
More photos after the jump...
When I first hold the lens, first thing that pops into my mind is...(Darn, this baby is heavy). And yes compare to other 50mm that I used before, it is the heaviest one so far. and pairing with the lighted body Nikon DF, it is a bit more prune to lean to the front. Well, after taking a few snaps and look at the LCD screen. I feel I can bared with the weight. The focusing is silence and fast. One more thing to emphasize is that the photo are sharp (in the sense that compare to my existing Sigma 50mm F1.4 HSM, the focusing area is not soft at all, I will say that it is way much solid and contrasty than it's predecessor). One more thing is that the Chromatic Aberration (CA) is superbly well kept at bare minimal at the highlight areas. Anyway here goes the sample photos. :") (Most photos are shoot at F1.4 (and max at F2) here, just would like to see how this lens performed at wide open)
It is a great lens. Definitely has been part of my wish list now. Still, the weight and the price tag is on a higher side compare to other of it's peers from other companies. Still, it's performance (which claims to be superbly close to the Zeiss Otus 54mm F1.4) has impressed me a lot (and a lot). So if you could bare with the weight of it and love it's performance, this is definitely a 50mm which you should have in your bag. Anyway, not a very official lens review, it is more like a first hands on and some of my personal point of view here. Probably if I could owned it and used it longer, I might could find more love and hate about this lens. Well, I hope you all have enjoy the photos. Have a great night people. :)
